Canetique Electrocatalysis Inc. (Canetique) is a spin-off company of the Institut national de la recherche scientifique, Centre - Énergie Matériaux Télécommunications (INRS-EMT) in Varennes, Québec, Canada. It was founded by Eric Proietti and Michel Lefèvre in June 2010 and is currently operating within the INRS-EMT facilities. Canetique specializes in the development of non-precious metal catalysts and catalyst-derived products for the cathode of PEM fuel cells. Canetique also has ongoing research & development activities aimed at developing non-precious metal catalysts and catalyst-derived products for anionic membrane fuel cells, microbial fuel cells and zinc-air batteries.
The patented technology behind the catalysts currently being developed by Canetique is the result of nearly two decades of non-precious metal catalyst research led by Prof. Jean-Pol Dodelet, one of the world's leading experts in the field of oxygen reduction in PEM fuel cells using non-precious metal catalysts. The co-founders of Canetique have played a key role in developing this new technology and continue their research and development efforts to create market-ready cathode catalysts for PEM, alkaline, microbial fuel cells and zinc-air batteries.
In addition to R&D activities, Canetique currently offers customized products and services related to the development of non-precious metal catalysts for customers seeking platinum-free materials for fuel cell and zinc-air battery cathodes. Canetique works with its customers to develop, optimize and produce cathode catalysts and catalyst-derived products for their applications to meet the required performance and cost targets.
Canetique actively seeks to build strong and mutually beneficial relationships with industrial partners that share a common interest in such catalysts. Industries that stand to benefit from Canetique's catalysts and catalyst-derived products include manufacturers of fuel cell systems for residential co-generation units, automobiles, motorcycles, scooters, recreational vehicles, material handling vehicles, portable electronics, power tools, powered hand tools, mining equipment, back-up and auxiliary power systems, uninterruptible power supplies (UPS) and portable power. Other industries include energy companies, innovative materials companies, chemical companies, and major power utilities.
